Windows Vista and Windows server 2003


Vista compatibility, Windows Server 2003, Vista

I want to install windows server 2003 but I already have windows Vista home premium and Windows XP Pro installed on the same computer. Will the windows server 2003 mess up the vista if i format xp partition and install server 2003 on it.

You need to install Server 2003 first or do some serious boot.ini modding afterwards. If you install Vista and then 2003 the 2003 will be able to boot but your XP and Vista installs will be hosed.

You will see that WinXP Pro is booting fine, but 2003 Server just after the first reboot during installation comes back with "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrup: <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Please reinstall a copy of the above file."
