Q:
Windows Updates fail
From a reader:

Windows Updates are not working for us. Our InstallShield updates are being blocked, maybe by something in our firewall? Not sure. Where should we start looking?

its possible being blocked by the firewall but the question is?is the computer hook-up to the network, well if thats the case you better check w/ the system admin to enable the privileges on that computer (read/write operations) when updates are being done

You can have a wsus server on you entwork and your wsus admin disabled in group policy for you to connect to windows update.

Try to follow these steps:

1.Click Start -> Run, type cmd and click Ok

2.Type the following commands and press Enter after each command
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

3.Once finished, attempt to run Windows Update again and your downloads should complete and install.
