If u have more than one DC make sure that the Schema modifications replicated to the remaining DC’s, Before going to DCPROMO on win2003.

Also run the adprep command both forest and domain on my DC 2K was successfully. But when I run dcpromo on Win2K3 server it was failed .. the forest is note prepared for installing win serve 2003.
