Windows Server 2008 with VMware Domain Controller migration
I am currently upgrading our network with a windows server 2008 and VMware. I have 2 Domin Controllers. Server09 and
Server11. Server09 is also the DHCP server. I want to move the Domain
Control off Server11 and Server09 to the new Server 2008
My Question is if the new server 2008 is attached too the other two
DC's with it have affect on the migration, I.E Can you have the DC
setup on Server 2008 and then migrate accross, then removing the other
two servers from DC
Also server 2008 will have vmware installed creating 4 new Servers on the one server will this affect the DC or can the DC be setup on the VMware server.
When setting up AD on server 2008 is there a simple migration also.

You can add the Server 2008 DC to your domain while the other two DCs are running. Here are some basic steps for your migration:
1. Use ADPREP.exe to prep both the forest and the domain for server 2008
2. Promote your new server to a Domain Controllers
3. Setup DNS and DHCP
4. Once the new server is running as a domain controller, you can demote your other two servers.
Vmware on your domain controller is a strange setup, but it is possible. I recommend that you setup the Server as an ESX server running on the bare metal. Then setup your DC as a virtual server. I also highly recommend that you have at lease two domain controllers for your domain.
