We tried to install SQL Server on our Server 2003 Web Edition and sure enough, it wouldn’t go. It turns out that it won’t and can’t install on web edition by design. Our solution? Wipe the box, load 2003 Server Standard Edition and enable web services. Only then were we able to install SQL Server on this box.
