How can you change parameters so that an exchange 2003 running on top server 2003 shutdown faster?

I am curiuous as to why... generally you do not want to shut down such a service on a regular basis and when you do, how fast it comes down is not really a big deal. How long is it taking to shut down now? Do you have performance issues while the system is running? What type of machine is it and what does the disk system look like (RAID 1, 5 - logs files separated,etc).
