When logging into the domain controller the drop down option isn't shown as you can not log into a local machine account. Only domain logins are available when logging into a domain controller.

If you only see one option this means that this is the Domain Controller, if you see nothing this means that A) the computer is not part of the domain; B) the computer has severe problems.
