Windows 98 and ACtive Directory Printing
Hi A customer of ours has a few Win98 client pcs. And they have just upgraded their SBS to a new 2003 SBS. Now that they have their AD up and running again, they asked if they can have their 98pc's print to this network printer. Since they can't join the domain or anything (as far as I know) how can I get them to print to that printer. They don't wanna use remote desktop?! Any help please :) Thanks for your time reading this W

Microsoft has a Active Directory Client Extension software known as DSclient.exe to allow Win 9x systems to access active directory.

You can find it on a Windows 2000 server CD-Rom (under ClientWin9xDSclient.exe) or download from Microsoft web site.

Hope this helps

You can make the 98 box use the domain, just right click on Network Neibhorhood and get it properties, double click on client for Microsoft Networks and there you will find a checkbox “Logon to NT domain”, type the NetBIOS name of the domain not the Host name.

Regarding printing, printing works fine from 98 machines, however if you find any problems when printing from them, on the server create a new instance of the printer and share it to the 98 client and set the printer to not spool, or print directly to the printer.

1. IP printing
2. netowrk neighbour hood->workgroup/domain/->computer-> printers->double click the required printer, that should install the printer software.
