My co-worker hit a combination of keys on a Windows 8.1 and made the screen go black. It will now only go to task-manager and narrator.

To resolve this issue, uninstall these programs by doing the following steps:

Log on to Windows 8.1, wait until the black screen appears.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Now click Task Manager, and then click More details.

On File menu, click Run new task, and type appwiz.cpl in the Create new task dialog box, and then click OK.

Now go to Programs and Features, locate the StartIsBack (or) Lucid Virtu MVP program in the Uninstall (or) change a program list, and then uninstall the program.

Return to Task Manager.

On File menu, click Run new task, type shutdown /r in the Create new task dialog box, and then click OK to restart the computer.

You might try hitting Alt+F4 or Windows+D. If those don't work, I've found that a reboot is often on the only option in these situations.
