Hi, do you mean you are losing network connectivity (can’t ping out, can’t see the network, no access to network shares) on the SQL server? Have you checked the physical network (loose cables etc)?

This could be caused by a mis-configuration of NetBIOS over TCP/IP (disabled?) or the administration shares (specifically IPC$) no longer being shared (check NET SHARE for ) - possibly Virus related?

IF and only IF the problem is dropped connections for Apps using SQL Server: The answer is 'Memory Leak' The server is still 'up', pingable, operable from the console. But if you go to 'task manager' the memory resources are all gone (less than 10MB). When you look at 'processes' sqlserver has eaten all available memory and is refusing connections. 1st step in 'Enterprise Manager' set properties for SQL Server to only use half the memory on your server (if this is less than 128MB, buy more!) 2nd step check the application if yours or contact vendor if purchased and make sure the memory release after query is working correctly. Sneaky, huh? Microsoft chose to protect the server = 'Stay up' by becoming non-functional.

If the server is out of network , check the TCPIP stack or LAN card driver else check free space , Sql client License etc..
