I had the same problem as the questioner... i tried this and it got resolved

go to task scheduler from accessories > system tools... in the taskbar

File | Edit | View | Favorites | Tools | Advanced | Help

Click advanced and select "view hidden tasks"

delete all of them as theyre unnecessary (unless if u can say that they are not)

reboot.

One last thought - do you have any kind of maintenance for any program(s) running at the same time? Some program maintenance modes will disable the Task Scheduler...

Thanks to all who've provided feedback. Here's the current status.

1) There are no entries in the Event Logs that jumped out at me originally, but I've since found several relating to "ESENT" database starting and stopping things.

2) I've disabled the "Human Interface Access" manager, and made sure the Task Scheduler is set to Automatic.

3) From separate research, I've learned that the user must have a password - an "empty" password will also cause this problem, so that's fixed now also.

4) Even though these things have been done, the tasks are still not running, but I'm not getting the popup.

5) When looking at the Event Viewer, the messages take me to a page at Microsoft which I don't yet understand.

6) SOME programs now appear to be running, thanks to the above fixes. So, I'm considering the matter closed.

Thanks again - all who responded.

Bob

We've had a similar problem with XP machines. Our solution:

Stop the Task Scheduler service
Stop and disable the Human Interface Device service
Start the Tash Scheduler.

It should then work correctly.

If the machine is NT you need to have better than IE5 and you must have the Offline Browsing Pack option installed.

HTH
