Hi all, it recently came to my attention that my current modem is not making use of my ISP's 100Mbps since I'm currently on an ARRIS TM502G. I am planning on upgrading my modem to maybe a ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 unless you guys have any suggestions. For my router, I am currently using a Linksys WRT610N V1. I am wondering if my router is slowing down my speeds at all and would I need to upgrade that as well. Sorry for not being incredibly tech savvy, thank you for the responses!

Depending on how old your old equipment is, you may see an increase in speed. The issue is how you connect and how many devices are connected at the same time. A direct cable connection will be faster than a wi-fi connection. The further away from the router and the number of walls / floors / ceiling the signal has to pass thru will slow it down as well. If you have any streaming service to things like your t.v. or tablets as well then you are splitting the speed across all deices.

Yes, if you upgrade your router, obviously it makes difference of internet speed, but plan/internet tariff is also an another reason for the same.

Sometimes, router update may help to overcome this issue/speed up connections rather change the router. Go to your router page like open a browser and type the router's IP/gateway address then by providing correct user/password to login and check if that an update may available right now. If yes, you can go for that, and check if that helps.
