Q:
Cisco Catalyst WS-C6506 - link termination question
I need Help for one of our solution on our site.

Senario

We have a simple campus network on our site where we have Core, dist.and access Switches.
Two Core Switches that are C6506 having redundancy.
CAT6507

Chasis WS-C6506
SUP WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE
MSFC-2 WS-F6K-MSFC2
1000BaseX Ethernet WS-X6416-GBIC

We have CAT OS as Well as IOS Running.
CAT OS : cat6000-sup.6-2-2.bin
IOS : c6msfc2-psv-mz.121-7a.E1

We also have a Router wherein 6 Mbps Lease Line has terminated.
My Problem is, now we are upgrading 6 Mb Link to 45 Mbps and wants this Link to terminate on C6506 and not on a Router.

My Questions

1) Will this Switch with existing hardware support the WAN Link and How ?
2) What addition hardware I required for this.

Hi, to answer this fully we need to know how the new circuit is going to be terminated. Is this a 'true' leased line, or bandwidth over Ethernet ?

If it is really a leased line, then you could use the FlexWAN modules on the 6500. This is essentially a Cisco 7200 router on a blade for the 6500, and you plug in the modules from a 72007500 to provide whatever interfaces you need. I warn you, this is not a cheap solution !

I would suggest that you are probably better getting a separate router, or modules for the existing one (if it has the necessary performance, and interface type). I think that it will prove to be far more cost effective.

If you post more details of the interface type for the new leased line, and your existing router, then maybe we can propose another solution.
