I deleted a user from Active Directory and then downloaded a new copy of the global address list (GAL) in Microsoft Outlook. However, the user's name still shows up in the Outlook GAL. Why is that? How can I delete him from the GAL?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Did you disable the user or right-click on delete the user?

A couple more questions for you... What version of Exchange are you using? 2000, 2003, 2007? Have you manually updated the Recipient Update Service? Did you say yes when prompted whether to mark the mailbox for deletion? (Typically the mailbox will be disabled but not purged for 30 days). The big question here is what version of exchange you are running.

If you were not prompted to remove the mailbox, then the server you removed the user from probably did not have the exchange management tools installed. Without that tool installed, that specific server will not see the exchange account. Regardless at this point you will probably have to remove the user GAL listing using repadmin to remove lingering objects. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/4a1f420d-25d6-417c-9d8b-6e22f472ef3c1033.mspx?mfr=true
