We have a Toshiba TV (42 inch) with many HDMI inputs. Is there something we can put in the HDMI so that one can run a laptop through the TV without wires?

A Google Chromecast might work. Not sure what you're looking to do but you can at least share Chrome browser tabs. I suspect there are other wireless HDMI communication devices as well.

There are many Wireless HDMI solutions out there from $99 to over $1,000 -

One that has a lot of promise is Airtame, which is in Pre-order now, but IOGear, gefen and Vizio all have offerings.
