Why is a TCP/IP reset RST flag being sent?

Over the past several days, I can't seem to figure out why my application's TCP/IP connection is basically "hiccuping" every 10 minutes or so. After running Wireshark, I realized the other end is sending a packet with the reset RST flag set (after 10 minutes of inactivity). From what I've read, this means that the receive is having trouble and wants to abort the connection. Would anyone know what might be causing this? Is it something in the router settings? Thank you.
