Why does install fails on step 2 of 9 MOSS 2007


SharePoint 2007 installtion fails, SharePoint 2007, MOSS 2007, SharePoint

Why does install fails on step 2 of 9 MOSS 2007- can not connect to configuration database. The installation create teh db's in the default SQL Server 2005 location yet during the install the wizard error message states that a connection can't be made

Normally I would say that there is a firewall between the MOSS server and the SQL Server, however with the fact that the database was created would tend to prevent this from being the case.

When happens if you rerun the installer. I know that sometimes the installers connect correctly.

Are you using a names instance or the default instance of the database?
