Why do NDR messages appear from a user deleted from the Exchange DL?

Exchange 2003, Distribution Lists, Active Directory, NDR

I am running Exchange Server 2003. I deleted a user from Active Directory over a month ago. Whenever my chief operating officer adds a calendar item with a particular distribution list (DL), he gets a non-deliverable email from a user. The user is not on any Exchange distribution list nor is he a delegate in any Microsoft Outlook profile, but this still continues to happen. The user’s account is deleted and his mailbox was purged from the Exchange server. Can you think of any solutions?

have you tried running the cleanup agent so the server will go thru and clean out old mailboxes that have been marked for deletion but have not been removed yet?

Exchange System Manager > Administrative Groups > %your system name% > Servers > %servername% > First Storage Group > Mailbox Store

then right click Mailboxes and run Cleanup Agent

hope this helps!

Buddyfarr’s right here. This has been the solution on 9/10 situations where I’ve seen this issue.
