When subreports, details and formulas are executed?

I have a formula in the Detail B section called @Status. This formula gets the job status code for each job being displayed in the detail B line, using shared variables. These shared variables get their data from various subreports which are in the Detail A section. It is grouping on Due dates with sub totals. When the job status is "Job Complete" we don't want to display that detail line nor include it in the sub totals for the group it is in. I can get it not to display the detail line putting a suppression formula to check @Status for "Job Complete", but I don't want it's value to be in the group subtotal. If the whole group was all "Job Complete" jobs it prints out the group footer showing the subtotal of zero. I'm confused about when the subreports are processed and I guess it depends on what section they are. I also don't understand when the detail section is processed relative to other sections. I guess the big problem is that Crystal is so unlike traditional programming languages where you know when things are executed and can debug and step through line by line and search for things etc. etc. Can anyone shed some light on this or better yet help with a solution to the "Job Complete" problem? Thanks! Valhalla
