After DefCon founder Jeff Moss' announcement that Feds should skip the hacker conference, the SearchSecurity team asked Trey Ford, General Manager at Black Hat, what Black Hat's stance on the issue. His response: All Feds are welcome. With all the hoopla surround the NSA, what's your take on DefCon asking Feds to stay away from the conference? Furthermore, do you agree with DefCon or Black Hat's announcement?

The statement he made seemed reasonable to me. It might even be a good idea on the part of the Feds to make a parallel announcement agreeing with Moss' sentiment and asking for some kind of consensus response from the community. . I doubt that there would be no attendance by agents of the Feds even if consensus agreed with non-participation; but without some good-will interaction between the sides, it will most likely turn into a far more adversarial relationship. And that would be bad for everyone. . Tom
