The operating system is Windows 8, and they do both have 8GB RAM. That is the only difference between the two–except for screen size–and that’s not a major consideration for me. I want to know if having one more DIMM will increase the overall performance, or what affect it has on the system?

Is the alternative two 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 (PC3-12800) SODIMMs? What is the OS? Assuming “everything is equal” means that both have 8GB RAM along with other system characteristics, and memory speeds are the same, and the OS can actually make use of 8GB, then performance really has no significant connection. — Tom
