Should we load up a 64-bit OS for this machine? It will be SQL Server only. We want to have the best user experience so any help would be greatly appreciated.
This varies greatly depending on concurrent connections, transactional activity, etc. As always the more memory you can supply the better. I would go with Windows 2008 x64 with 16GB of memory and appropriately partition your drives accordingly:
In Server
2 Mirrored Drives - C: - Operating System Only
2 Mirrored Drives - D = Pagefile
2 Mirrored Drives - E = Applications
SAN (iSCSI/Fibre) with redudant paths
Expandible Drives - F = Database Files Only
Expandable Drives G = Log Files Only
Expandable Drives H = Dump SQL backup
