Good old-fashioned common sense is the best tool to have. Beyond that, a general vulnerability scanner such as QualysGuard and Nexpose is a must. Network tools such as NetScanTools Pro, OmniPeek, and CommView for Wi-Fi are indispensable. There's no way you can say you've truly found all the right web flaws without using multiple Web vulnerability scanners such as Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner and WebInspect. Rapid7's Metasploit is the tool to have if you must prove your points and demonstrate what can happen when security flaws are ignored. Password cracking tools like the ones offered by Elcomsoft are essential. Finally, a good source code analyzer such as Checkmarx CxDeveloper can be very beneficial. In the end, with security tools, you're usually going to get what you pay for.
