What’s the best way to automate testing in Lotus Notes 8.5?

My organization is working for a way to automate functional tests in Lotus Notes 8.5. Several of my teammates have already tried different tools including Testcomplete 6 and Rational Robot 7. The problem we're running into is issues with recognizing objects and implement verifications. Has anyone tried to implement these type of tests? What are the best tools for this type of process? Could we create some type of code? Appreciate the help.

There is a product called TestDrive from Original Software, which claims to have support specifically for Lotus Notes client application testing. I don’t have any experience with the tool. Their site is at http://www.origsoft.com/products/testdrive/
