What’s a college grad to do for work experience?
As a recent college graduate with no experience other than freelance projects online, would contractual programming be enough for employers as work experience? Also, other than internships, what are additional ways to gain work experience? Every job I have been applying for requires experience yet are listed as entry-level. If anyone can provide an insight as to how they obtained the fresh start in the field of software development or testing.

Answer Wiki:
You've pretty much nailed it already. Freelance projects, open source software, etc. would all qualify and should be listed on your resume.

I only know about E-Lance. I would welcome any suggestion on other possible freelance websites or how to find contractual work. and possibly volunteer work. At Kaplan a great detail of attention was paid to the SDLC methodology, in particular the implementation plan. I understand the importance of this document but is there a template that is currently the standard.

By the way, thank you for your quick response, Mrdenny.

Every company out there has their own spin on SDLC so that it fits within their company. There isn’t any sort of standard standard document that everyone uses.
