 what is the next path after helpdesk

Hi Guys,

good day just want to ask what is the next path after helpdesk so that i can be a server admin in the future?, i am a helpdesk technician 1 year and 9 mos. don't know what position to take for an entry level network guy
i am still currently finishing my A+ and Network+.

i am very fond with networks and how technology is trending.

some says sys ad, some said network engineer, other says be a helpdesk supervisor first.

all comments and suggestions are welcome.

The help desk is a career path with many good options. You are obviously very interested in networking and this is a good career path with very good earnings potential and longevity. What you do next depends on inside versus outside opportunities. Start by keeping an eye on your current companies job posting in IT and apply for an open network administrator/engineer position when you see one. This worked at my company recently and two people have transferred from the help desk to database and network entry level positions. You should also look outside similarly. Everyone has to start somewhere, so keep trying and always advancing your education and knowledge.

Though u did not mention here Voice / Non voice ! “i am very fond with networks and how technology is trending“, well, networking field is very tricky that no knowledge is enough (my point of view), cause day to day there r so many new technology discovered, so it is necessary to adopt the latest techs and adjust in the current scenario.. it is better to do CCNA and then move for further certs. Though u can do MCP and then MCSE, but CCNA (with hands-on experience) is better than MSCE in networking field. Also remember, a degree is also very important for ur good future, this will open doors for u that a certification can not, believe me it’s a proven fact that a degree provides more better option than certs.

Here have two Path for you :
path 1: helpdesk->network administrator->network engineer->IT manager->CIO/CTO
path 2: helpdesk->system administrator->system engineer->IT manager->CIO/CTO
I think this is a good option for you.but the Interesting is you best teacher.follow your Interested!

I am MCA, currently I am working as IT helpdesk engineer in MNC, Now I want to jump my carrier. So please suggest best option for me:- Move to 1) S/w testing, 2) Networking, or any other technology which will be better for future aspect. I have 2+ year experience as IT helpdesk.
