I'm trying to keep track of how many times my videos have been played so I can determine whether or not I want to delete them if i really don't play them that often. I would also like to be able to keep track of how many times an image is viewed on my computer as well. I do not want to use Windows Media Player or iTunes for this process.

The "best" would be the one that you find that meets whatever your requirements are. Write down your list of requirements -- price, memory, disk usage, performance, user experience, etc. -- then compare features of whatever you can find. Set weighting factors for each requirement according to your preferences. Choose the one that seems to match most closely. . I'm not sure what criteria you'll use for your search. I'm not even sure such a program exists. However, Windows SysInternals does have both Disk Mon and Process Mon, and you might find a way to use those. You might use them as guides for creating a program that does what you want. . Tom

Is this information to track your viewing or is it viewing from a network or the web? IF web viewing you may be able to use Google Analytics, I have not tried it but have seen some of the data available it can provide by our webmaster. Other than that I am not sure of anything that captures the action of file usage. You might be able to do something in VB or C# with on-click events and log to a table or cookie. Still new to VB myself so not 100% sure on that.
