Answer Wiki:
Quick Storage Migration (QSM) is a new feature in VMM 2008 R2 that will allow me to move a VM from one type of storage to another with minimal downtime. Let’s say, I have a VM that is running on an Fibre Channel SAN, and I want to now move it to and iSCSI SAN. QSM will allow me to take the VM that was running on the one LUN and move it to the other. People ask how is it different than VMware’s Storage vMotion, well, it is different in a few ways. First of all, it is true that VMware’s Storage vMotion allows me to move the VMs between LUNS with no downtime, whereas QSM has a small downtime (we do all we can to limit the amount of downtime to the VMs (like Quick Migration before)). But we can do things like move the running VM from one Hyper-V host to another at the same time we move the storage which means that I have LESS downtime than a VMware solution when moving from say Dev to Stage or Stage to Production.
