Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If your DB Fault rate is consistently high, try adjusting the maxact for the storage pool. This may not be effective if you do not have enough RAM since the QPFRADJ system value should be set to auto adjus

Database Page Fault happens when the loaded page of the datafile needs to be swapped to get the next record. This will typically be high when doing random access which includes “sequential” reads using a key file.

If the file is reorganized (RgzPfm) based on the key that you are using then the page faults drop. Reorganizing files by key would be done perodically to clear the deleted record space.

Non-DB faults, as seen on DSPSYSSTS screen are also important. Its the same concept as Phil described in his answer but it involves program and operating system instead of database file. If you are seeing these faulting rates in double digits its time for a tune up. The systems expert we work with recommends taking samples for about 10 minutes at various times of the day to get a good picture of non-DB faults. Something else to watch is the Act-Inel column. This number should be at or very near zero. This means a program has gone for Active to Ineligible. Its a sign of a system that needs a tune up and possibly more memory. Again, 10 minute samples give a good idea of what is happening.
