This is indicative of Hard Drive controller problem.  If you can, try replacing the cable for the hard drive if it has that ability.  Since most Hard Drive controllers are built into the system boards in laptops you may not be able do this, you may have to get a new system board from HP and replace it.  It is possible that the hard drive itself may be having issues too and may need to be replaced too.  You did not say, but has any diagnostics been run on the system to test for issues?
