Dear NWATE:

I see you’ve posted a follow-up to your original posting on the forums. I’ve actually addressed the whole network architect thing in another article for Certification magazine, entitled “IT Architects: Blueprint for a Future Career” (http://www.certmag.com/articles/templates/CM_gen_Article_template.asp?articleid=1406&zoneid=225). You’ll also want to check out this list of links to enterprise architecture topics: <a href="http://www.ewita.com/links/links.htm." rel="nofollow">http://www.ewita.com/links/links.htm.</a>

The Cisco certs aren’t a bad way to get into network architecture, and I’d certainly suggest the CCNA-CCDA-CCDP-CCNP sequence as a good one to get under your belt. But you can tackle network architecture from many directions (as the aforementioned links should amply illustrate) so I’d advise you to follow your interests into network architecture, rather than trying to follow network architecture to identify what those interests might be.

If you have further comments or questions, do feel free to post again here. Since we both live in the Austin Metro area, you might want to check out my Web page at <a href="http://www.edtittel.com" rel="nofollow">www.edtittel.com</a> and give me a call or shoot me a direct e-mail so we can talk things out.

Good luck with yoru career planning and development.
