what does 535 mean to authenticion
Authentication, 535 Authentication failed, Exchange authentication
Rubster again the above seems to relate to not having a connection to server not sure what to do

Hi Troy,
Problem seems to be the server is saying need this authentication mechanism 535,my service provider which is bigpond dial up here,has said i need a technican to fix the problem. Have been back into computer the code for this looks like it is md5 chap,not sure what this means? The whole thing is there are no email connections, looks to me like it is the server,my computer is fine modem is checked out,have spoken to many people in regard to this all connected with the server section say alls well????
mail server is pop39incoming) outgoing is smtp. Have had them changing passwords, then they say wrong password ,not so it is all confusing ,this all happened after a 2 week break all was well before? probably has nothing to do with the situation, but this happened before when there was a period of inactivity the server was able to sort that out .Seems a few others have been having the problem.Many thanks Rubster

Please provide more information about the environment. Exchange version, client version, etc. Where is this error seen? On the client or server? What application is generating the error message? Can anyone else use the system or is this happening for all users?

Hi Rubster.
You need to provide more details.

When do you get the authentication error ? when you try to send mails ? when you connect to the server to receive mails ?

What mail software (and version) are you using (server and client) ?

535 is not a authentication mechanism, 535 is an error code, meaning “authentication failed”.
