A recent article in the Data Center Journal (http://bit.ly/V4RfRM) discusses some of the skepticism that federal agencies are facing since the inception of the Federal Data Center Consolidation (FDCCI) in early 2010. The article notes that “Although some progress has been made – likely despite resistance at the agency level – the project still faces fundamental barriers to success.”
On top of this level of resistance, there appears to be less of a focus on ensuring current data centers run efficiently, as a recent GovExec article (http://bit.ly/NxYZLw) highlighted an Energy Department audit that found 44 of the 77 data centers weren’t employee basic energy-saving practices.
What are you experiencing at your agency or organization when it comes to this? Dell and Iron Bow Technologies have a fun Angry-Bird style survey/quiz to take for IT gurus to better understand what’s going on. Respondents will be entered to win a Dell XPS-13 Ultrabook.
