With Jeep and Burger King becoming the recent victims of a hacker attack, cybersecurity has become the focus point for many enterprises and CIOs. What should CIOs do to counter the spread of cyber attacks? Can anything be done at all?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

It’s relatively simple:

  1. Know what you’ve got
  2. Understand how it’s at risk
  3. Do something about it

It’s numbers 2 and 3 that so many people have trouble with. The reality is you cannot secure what you don’t acknowledge. You most certainly cannot secure the big areas when the CIO is actually getting in the way.

Lots of politics and moving parts here. I’m not surprised at all to see these attacks.

Two basic things come to mind:  -Make sure every system and application is up-to-date. -Make sure every one in the organization is adequately educated on social engineering and the risks associated with it.  This (and many other things) should be included in an information security policy, which should be know by everyone.

Nearly a year later, nothing has changed. Relatively simple stuff, if you can get beyond the people problems.
