Answer Wiki:
I'm seeing lots of buzz/hype but not a lot of substance around big data just yet. Maybe it's because I haven't taken the time to read up on it like I should be. I'm always skeptical of marketing buzzwords (cloud, BYOD...remember the 'NC' from the mid 1990s?) I do know that big data is going to have an impact on security, in particular malware protection, event correlation, and the like. We'll have to see how it translates into usable security insight and control in products and services we use every day. Funny you mention unstructured data - I thought I was behind the curve when I first started talking about it ~6.5 years ago in this SearchStorage.com piece. Organization of unstructured data is going to become more and more important yet increasingly difficult to do.
