 What backend works best with Cognos frontend?
Cognos, Microsoft Access, SQL Server
Our company is looking to install Cognos as an upgrade from the Access reporting system we currently use. What is the best backend database to a Cognos frontend? We are considering SQL Server, but aren't sure if that is the best option. Any suggestions?

I don't know if theres a best backend, thats question probably more suited for the Microsoft/Oracle debaters, but... We have a Cognos 8.4 installation and we are using a combination of SQL Server 2000 and 2005. They make it a point that you can use any database server or datasource you want to rather easily and I would suspect the only hinderance you might ever have would lie more in your database design than more what you are using. Just make sure you follow all the recommended setup and specs in their documentation and you should be fine. We've been using this for two years now and even been through an upgrade and had no issues.
