I am thinking about getting my MCSE and CCNA certifications. What is the fee of the training? Also, what salary can I expect after earning these certifications?

Gee:
While the CCNA is worth pursuing it’s very much an entry-level credential, more properly viewed as a stepping stone to other, more senior Cisco certs (CCNP, CCDP, CCSP, and so forth, ultimately leading to a CCIE in one or more specialties). I don’t think a CCNA by itself is going to do much to increase your salary or employability for more or less the same reasons.

The MCSE is getting pretty tired. The newest server version to which it applies is Server 2003, and with Server 2008 R2 now on the scene, I’m guessing the MCSE will fade into obscurity in 2011 when the next Windows Server version ships. I’d recommend tackling the MCTS/MCITP tracks instead, with a focus on Windows Server administration and perhaps also security, virtualization, and Active Directory (a potent combination bound to appeal to many employers).

With an MCITP in server administration, plus the aforementioned specialties, you could expect to make $55 to $85 K per year in the US, depending on your location, local market conditions, and other qualifications (experience, degrees, and so forth).

Here are some ways to boost your IT salary and income way higher than any certification ever will. Remember, your salary is determined by your attitude, your sticktuitiveness, and your ability to stand out above the noise. Find your niche and work all out to become an expert. It really does work. Best of luck!
