Q:
What are the licensing requirements associated with App-V?
What are the licensing requirements associated with App-V? That is if the application being virtualized uses SQL Server and it is part of the virtual application does the user of the App-V package require a full SQL Server license?

This question is from the Microsoft Virtualization Chat held on August 27th.

Since App-V doesn't change the execution location or user for the applications (it still runs where it would run if installed locally), most existing license requirements are the same as local install.

SQL Server Licenses are handled by end user or end device. It doesn’t matter how many middleware pieces there are between the user and the SQL Server each end user or end device has to be licensed.
