Hi,

We currently have Oracle EBusiness Suite licenses. IS it true that if we want to create a new report (using Reports Builder)because a system report does not have all the data we need, then we have to pay database and application licenses to do so?

Regards,

Bonita

If you are using Reports builder, then you have to pay the appropriate license fee, whether you use it to develop reports for EBusiness suite or for other purposes. If to develop your reports you are using the same database used by EBusiness suite, then you don't need to pay for an additional license, but if you will have a different database for this purpose, then you should pay for the corresponding license. But, when it comes to licenses, you would be better off talking to an Oracle representative.

Hi Carlosdl, Thanks very much for responding. We are using the same database used by the EBusines suite. For some reports however we will be using the exact tables that came with the database and for others however, we may want to create our own views off of those same tables in the EBiz database so as to have less joins. From what you said, can I do the former (use tables from the EBiz database) and not have to buy additional license?

Well, as I was unsure about the type of modifications that would require an additional license, I did some research, and this is what I found. Please disregard my previous post, and pay attention to this one: -If you are going to create or modify forms/reports/java programs then you need to purchase a license for the Application Server -If you are going to do any modification to database tables, triggers or procedures that are part of the E Business suite schema, then you need to purchase a license for the database. -If you are going to do both types of modifications (programs and database) then you do need both licenses. Here's the official document: Applications Licensing Table (PDF) Hope this helps, and sorry for giving erroneous information without further verification.

As previously stated, it is always better to clarify any license doubts with an Oracle representative.

Thanks Carlosdl. I read that document already but I really couldn;t believe that we did have to pay licenses to do those things :( Would you be able to say if we need licenses to do the same things on a test system?

I suppose yes. We asked Oracle about the need of a license for an app server for our test environment, and they said we did need an additional license, so I guess the same applies in your case.
