I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish and what tools might be useful to help you out. Network monitor is a packet capture & analysis tool. It is provided free by Microsoft but in my opinion is difficult to use and not very user friendly. Wireshark is a free, industry recognized tool that can do the same thing as Microsoft Network Monitor. However, I would recommend performing the packet capture with the Microsoft tool and then move the data set to another computer for analysis with Wireshark.

A comparison review of Network Monitor from about a year ago can be found at http://4sysops.com/archives/review-microsoft-network-monitor-30-netmon-a-rival-to-wireshark-and-omnipeek/
