Probably not, unless you are adding more hardware to the current system. We went from a 570 V5R4 to OS/V6R1 and saw no improvement at all. Thou when we went from a 570 to a 770 with 256MB of memory and 20 SSD's and 144SAS drives we saw huge improvements with applications, backups, IPL........

We are running both RPG and COBOL/400 on the old 570 and the new 770.

There will probably be improvements if the COBOL is doing work the i 6.1 helps to improve. There may be no improvement if the COBOL is doing work that isn't affected by the change from V5R4 to 6.1. There could be a negative performance impact if the COBOL work is doing things improperly. In short, unless we know what the COBOL code looks like and what the work management environment looks like and what PTFs are applied for V5R4 and what PTFs may be applied to 6.1, there's no way to know anything.
