Maybe the question should be what’s the best way to get PTFs.
We like ordering them from Fix Central (Web) then using the FTP methode to download them straight into the IFS. We create an image catalog and add them to this virtual image.
Now you can install your PTFs without flipping a single CD.
Get ‘em by CD. Lee.
Ship ‘em by bus, Gus.
Order from IBM, Lem.
Carry ‘em by pony, Tony.
There must be 50 ways to get PTFs.
The best way will depend on your system and network configuration plus requirements such as immediacy.
If you have decent download speeds, an average current PC with spare disk space and sufficient space in your System i IFS to hold numerous CD (or perhaps DVD) images, then downloads from Fix Central are the way to go. The IFS space is for virtual optical images. If you don’t have space anywhere to hold the CD images, then having the CDs shipped to you will be required.
If you have space on your PC but not in the System i IFS, then you’ll want your PC to have a CD burner to populate physical CDs.
If you just want simple individual PTFs, the basic SNDPTFORD command should be sufficient.
