 W2k cluster node cannot take ownership of cluster resource
Hi i've encountered this issue when i try to fail over a cluster resource disk; eventhough the failover was successful the owner of the cluster resource cannot access the shared drive but there is no errors captured in the event logs and the failover was successful this only happends to one of the node of a cluster

Is this a newly created cluster? If so did you add the shared drive as a resource in cluster administrator? If so did you make sure both nodes were listed as possible owners? If this is not a new cluster, did it ever work? If it used to work, when did it stop working? Can you pinpoint any changes made before it stopped working? A little more detail if you please :-)

Hi it was an old cluster setup which used to work the strange thing is that nothing has changed before this happened not even windows service pack has been applied the only error i get is the battery for HP Smart array 6400 has failed and write cache has been disabled

ok, well go into your resources in the cluster administrator and double check that both nodes are listed as possible owners of the shared drive. Another possible problem may be that your quorum drive is corrupted and needs to be rebuilt. I had to do that to a cluster once.
