Q:
VPN Issues with few websites
HI,

In our VPN, only few of the website are not accessbile for one user. Say for example, www.google.com is not opening for one user. But where as another website are working well.

Also, no other user facing this problem expect that user. What could be the problem here?

Dear All,

Thanks for the Valuable suggestions. Below is the few more information which i got.

Firstly what is the VPN technology and manufacturer ? Is it IPSEC, SSL (or is it a PPTP or L2TP tunnel which is not really a secure VPN, but sometimes is called one).

Yes, This is an IPSEC VPN by CISCO (Ugent)

If we know a bit more about the manufacturer, then we can also look at the config and see what the issue may be. Some apply the same criteria to all users, some have different contexts, domains roles or profiles that are different for different groups of users.

Is the user who has this problem in the same group as the others ?

Yes, We have a AD Group called "VPNUSERS", and the problemetic user also belong to the same Group :)

Can this user access the sites using just the IP address, rather than the name (then my DNS guess could be right !) ?

No, the IP is not pingable, or traceble thorugh his machine !!

You can traceroute from the user’s machine to the specific sites to see how it’s getting there. This will help you determine whether it’s going over the VPN or not.

Friend, you can try to ping an ip address associated with the website and test if it gets there …
this will ensure whether it is a name resolution issue or not … but one more thing that should be paid some attention is .. whether other sites are being accessed in cached mode or they are live…plz ensure these facts so that we can continue further …

hope it helps u ..

What is the make and model of your VPN? If it is only one user, you should look at the groups this user is associated with and see if the VPN is blocking the connection in a policy.
