I got a problem......One of my client is using a VPN connetivity to access mail from their remote server..this client is in Qatar and the server is in France..they using a software to connect the VPN. Everything going on fine and the problem is if they connected to the vpn network the user not able to acces the local resources like printer and share folder..but, he is able to access the internet which is in the local network. Can you give me a solution for this.......... by Nafi

Your problem is there is an domain address conflict(3rd ip octet) between the clients local network and the vpn network. ------------------------------------- It actually sounds like a security problem. Check your access lists, and make sure the addresses given out by your VPN are allowed access to those resources. ----------------------------------- <a href="http://http://lmgtfy.com/?q=vpn+split+tunnel">Split tunneling</a> is not enabled. This would permit access to local resources while attached to the VPN network. This is a typical security precaution. This prevents the VPN client from being a pass-through gateway between the client network and the connected VPN network.

actually i will give you my ip range….

my local ip is …192.168.0……..

the vpn ip is 172.16.30………

but i am able to get internet from local network…….

I am not getting printers and shared folder after i connected the vpn?

Hi,

I’m afraid this is not a problem but a policy… Couple of cites where I or my acquaintances have to VPN have such policies and they insist on their enforcing, period (though I, personally, don’t believe they are more secure allowing just mine – probably infiltrated – PC on their network).

So, if you have to put on their site some information stored on a file server in your LAN, put it beforehand on the desktop, otherwise you can freeze your PC… and break a ipsec service also (at least with some of VPN clients)… :o (((

Even the basic PPTP VPN built into Windows does this if you configure it to use the default gateway on the remote network. It’s likely policy but arguably a case of security getting in the way of business like I talk about here.
