Im thinking its one of few reasons:
- You didnt choose the right settings during installation
- Your OS is not recent enough
- You computer doesnt have the resources to run it
- Your AV is deleting some needed files

Sorry for not answering your question but i cant provide a solution when im not entirely sure what the cause is.

Is it possible to create a new virtual machine and attach the old virtual disk to the new one ? if so, have you tried that ?

Also, the virtual disk file could be corrupt.

OS is windows vista. Vmware does install, however, when i try to resume or start a VM, the error message appears.

laptop is new.

I have been able to run the same VM on windows XP.
