 VLAN or not!!!
I have a sytem operating via the internet that provides remote control for VHF radio transmitters. It operates using static i/p's at both termination points with the routers forwarding ports 5004, 5006 and 5008 to the private i/p of each device. To operate, each device has to be configured with the public i/p of the remote device. This works fine with the staic i/p's. I have now been asked see if the system will operate using non static addresses on the public network. I have been told that VLAN may be an option. I am new to VLAN so any advice would be appreciated.

Answer Wiki:
I don't think that VLANs will be of any help. VLANs are used to isolate parts of the LAN from each other. You could use dynamic DNS and setup the devices to connect over DNS names instead of IP addresses.

Agree with Mr. Denny: VLANS are a Layer 2 technology used to segregate LANs. What you are mentioning is Routing – a Layer 3 Technology

DynDNS is a great way to use dynamic public IPs. VLANs/Routing – in your case – are apples and oranges…
