Hi All We are planning to develop an web application using ASP.net and code behind as C#.net. For this we are using .net Framework 4.0 and Visual Web developer 2010 edition and database as mysql, server as IIS. I would like to know if there is any licensing issue in developing the above application, since i want to develop these at no cost involved. I also came to know that there is no cost involved in developing the application using the above softwares but there is a problem when i deploy this application in production. Is it true that i have to buy license if i am going to deploy this application into production. Is there any licensing issue based upon the no of end users for this web application. I would greatful if someone could clarify the above constraints. Thanks and Regards Jeeshan Shaik

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You’ll need Windows licenses for the servers running IIS. There are no license needs for your C# application.

Visual Studio Express Editions are a set of free lightweight individual IDEs which are provided as stripped-down versions of the Visual Studio IDE on a per-platform basis or per-language basis, i.e., it installs the development tools for the supported platforms (web, Windows) or supported development languages (VB, C#) onto individual Visual Studio Shell AppIds. It includes only a small set of tools as compared to the other systems. It does not include support for plug-ins. x64 compilers are not included in the Visual Studio Express edition IDEs, but are available as part of a Windows Software Development Kit that can be installed separately. Express editions do not use the full MSDN Library but use the MSDN Essentials Library. It includes : 1. Visual Basic Express 2. Visual C++ Express 3. Visual C# Express 4. Visual Web Developer Express 5. Express for Windows Phone

Now you know what the Visual Studio Express Editions are, and what they include. As for your question, as Mrdenny stated there are no license needs for the C# application, no matter whether you deploy it to a production environment or you develop it just for testing or learning.
