AS400 SQl queries via vb slow

Hi, we have just migrated from an old 530 AS400 to a smaller 170 model with a view to winding down the systems as thet get migrated to other platforms.  We have an issue with one system which is a VB 6 front end and utilises the AS400 as a database. Since the migration this application is extremely slow to query records through VB/SQL taking as long as * minutes to return a result., where as the 530 returned the result in seconds (The databse is farily small)  As the VB clients connect via ODBC drivers they run in the QSERVER subsystem QSERVER.  We have tried increasing the memory storage to the pool that qserver runs in (*base) but the VB/SQl query still runs lslowly. The O/S of the system is V4r3 and the machine has double the  memory than the old 530, Can anyone suggest what is wrong and how we can rectify this issue.
