Vista Wi-fi Network from Laptop?

Vista, Wi-Fi, Network connectivity, Laptop computers

Hi,

I've got a Laptop with Vista Home Premium which has a Wi-fi adaptor built-in. The laptop is connected to my home network using ethernet UTP and has an internet connection through the network.

What I'd like to be able to do is share the internet connection through the Wi-fi (to allow internet acces for my mobile phone through the Wi-fi). How can I do this using the current set-up? Do I need some sort of wireless access point?

Thanks in advance,

Martin Gilbert.

Although I would not recommend this to anyone, you may be able to turn on Internet Connection Sharing, and then allow users to connect in "Ad Hoc" mode to your wireless connection. That way it would not require an access point - just peer to peer essentially.

I do not know what capacity or limits are involved in using Ad Hoc mode for this, and security-wise I wouldn't recommend it.

But, if you really want to do it, that's where I'd start looking.
